here b = 2 × 4 = 8 and h = 3, thus

A = 0.5 × 8 × 3 = 12 in²

The area (A) of the semicircle is calculated as

A = 0.5πr² ← r is the radius = 4, thus

A = 0.5π ×4² = 0.5 = 0.5π × 16 = 8π

Sum the 2 areas together for area of composite shape, that is

area of composite shape = ( 8π + 12 ) in² → B
