Sponges belong to phylum Porifera.

Different cell types and their functions are as follows:

1. Pinacocytes - It forms the outer layer of the sponge. It sometimes helps in phagocytosis of food particles.

2. Lophocyte or Collenocyte - these cells secretes collagen.

3. Porocyte - it controls the water flow through ostia.

4. Amoebocyte - provides nutrients to the cell.

5. Chanocyte - generates water current and filters food particles from water.

6. Sclerocyte - secretes silica spicules.

7. Oocyte - egg cell.
