We can divide the figure into 2 rectangles

the perimeter of a rectangle = 2*a +2*b

a= length

b= width

first rectangle:

a=6

b=2

perimeter of first rectangle= 2*6 +2*2

perimeter of first rectangle= 12+4=16

second rectangle:

a=10-2 =8

b=2

perimeter of second rectangle= 2*8 +2*2

perimeter of second rectangle= 16+4=20

finally the perimeter of the figure is 16+20=36
