to the risk of sounding redundant.

to get the slope of a line we can simply use two points on the line, say like the fellow above using (1,-1) and (0,1)


\bf (\stackrel{x_1}{1}~,~\stackrel{y_1}{-1})\qquad (\stackrel{x_2}{0}~,~\stackrel{y_2}{1}) \\\\\\ slope = m\implies \cfrac{\stackrel{rise}{ y_2- y_1}}{\stackrel{run}{ x_2- x_1}}\implies \cfrac{1-(-1)}{0-1}\implies \cfrac{1+1}{-1}\implies \cfrac{2}{-1}\implies -2

To start, the slope is -2.

To solve for the slope you want to take two coordinates, lets say (1, -1) and (0,1) you would want to plug them into the slope formula.

This is


y_(2) - y_(1) \\----\\x_(2) - x_(1)

(1, -1) is coordinate one. Which means 1 =
x_(1) and -1 is =
y_(1)

And

(0,1) is coordinate two. Which means 0 =
x_(2) and 1 is =
y_(2)\

If you put in the values you will get


(-2)/(1)

Therefor, the slope is -2.
