In the fable The ant and the grasshopper, the ants were hard at work utilizing the harvesting season to the best of their ability to ensure that they were prepared for the winter. The grasshopper how ever was more concerned about the present. He saw that he had enough resources to suit his needs at the current time. The ants survived the winter with ease because of there previous hard work. The grasshopper was not so lucky.

The moral of that story is to work hard in the present so you can enjoy the future.

In the fable The Hare and the Tortoise, a hare challenged anyone to race him because he was very sure of his abilities. The tortoise humbly accepted his challenge and received some mochary from the hare and the other animals. He responded to the hare by saying, "Keep your boasting till you’ve beaten. Shall we race?" and the hare accepted his response. Once they began racing the hare was far ahead of the tortoise and to show how much better he was, he laid down to take a nap. When the hare awoke he found the tortoise was about to cross the finish line and that he could not make up the distance. The tortoise won the race and humbly said, "Plodding wins the race.” which basically means, "slow and steady wins the race."

The moral of this story: consistent work and humility will see you through until you get where you are going and beyond.

In the fable The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing, A sly wolf found a sheep skin that had been cast aside by the shepherds. He put it over himself as a disguise to get into the flock. The Lamb that belonged to the sheep, whose skin the Wolf was wearing, began to follow the Wolf in the Sheep’s clothing. He led the lamb away and ATE HER.

The moral of this story is make sure you know who you are putting your trust in or you may face severe consequences.

It is evident that the Greeks valued loyalty and courage. In The Iliad, Hector explains that he cannot face his family and friends if he does not march bravely into battle. The Greeks also valued honesty and hard work. For example, in two fables, "The Hare and the Tortoise" and "The Ant and the Grasshopper," the moral is that hard work leads to success.
