Answer:

x ≈ 3.39, x ≈ 10.61

Explanation:

Given

x² - 14x + 36 = 0 ( subtract 36 from both sides )

x² - 14x = - 36

To complete the square

add ( half the coefficient of the x- term )² to both sides

x² + 2(- 7)x + 49 = - 36 + 49

(x - 7)² = 13 ( take the square root of both sides )

x - 7 = ±
√(13) ( add 7 to both sides )

x = 7 ±
√(13)

Hence

x = 7 -
√(13) ≈ 3.39

x = 7 +
√(13) ≈ 10.61
