Oil with a specific gravity of 0.80 forms a layer 0.90m deep in an open tank that is otherwise filled with water. The total depth of water and oil is 3m. What is the gage pressure at the bottom of the tank?

Answer:

P_g = 27664.2 Pa

Step-by-step explanation:

As we know that the Gauge pressure is the pressure exerted due to liquid only

So here we can say

P_g = \rho_1gh_1 + \rho_2 gh_2

here we know that

\rho_1 = 800 kg/m^3

\rho_2 = 1000 kg/m^3

h_1 = 0.90 m

h_2 = 2.1 m

Total depth of oil and water is 3 m

now we have

P_g = (800)(9.81)(0.90) + (1000)(9.81)(2.1)

P_g = 27664.2 Pa
