A contractor can pay his crew at most $250 a day. It costs $45 each day to operate the forklift and $60 a day for each crew member. Write an inequality to represent the contractor's budget for the day.

The answer is B. His budget is $250 so it has to be less than or equal to. $60 a crew member (x = the crew members) and $45 to use the forklift, so $60x + $45 is less than or equal to $250

Answer:

60x + 45 ≤ 250

Explanation:

Let x be the number of crew members,

If the cost is $ 60 a day for each crew member,

Thus, the total payment paid to crew members in a day = 60x dollars,

Also, operating cost for each day = $ 45,

So, the payment paid = total payment to all crew members + operating cost

= 60x + 45

Since, the total payment is at most $250 a day,

That is, total payment can not exceed $ 250,

⇒ 60x + 45 ≤ 250

Which is the required inequality.
