You will have


(x-1)/(x^(2) +2x-3) the un-simplified difference of those expressions

Lets try to simplify that

Lets find the roots of the polynomial from the bottom using the formula for quadratic equation, (-b +/- sqrt( b2-4*a*c)) /(2*a)

Which are x=-3, and x=1

Thus, you have (x+3)*(x-1)

So


(x-1)/(x^(2) +2x-3) = (x-1)/((x+3) (x-1))= (1)/(x+3)
