Two planes start from Los Angeles International Airport and fly in opposite directions. The second plane starts 1/2 hour after the first plane, but its speed is 40 kilometers per hour faster. Answer:

1. 850 km/hr

2. 890 km/hr

Step-by-step explanation:

Total distance = 3035 km

Le the speed of first plane = X km/hr

The speed of second plane = X + 40

Now Time for first plane to reach destination = 2 hr

Time for second plane to reach destination = 2 - 1/2

= 1.5 hr

As distance = speed × time

and total distance = distance traveled by both planes

3035 = 2X + 1.5 ( X + 40 )

3035 = 3.5X + 60

3.5X = 2975

X = 850 km/hr

Therefore, speed of first plane = 850 km/hr

speed of second plane = 850 + 40

= 890 km/hr
