The War of 1812 was extremely divisive . Not only does Canada view this war as its own "War of Independence", but, during the Hartford Convention, New England nearly seceded from the United States. It would be as if California or Oregon had attempted to secede during WW II and join China or Japan.

Do you think the Hartford Convention was right to think about seceding from the United States? If they had seceded in during the War of 1812, would we still have had a Civil War 45 years later?

Answer:

The civil war would have occurred anyways. There was serious underpinning dismay in society of that time period. And we fully do not understand what the misgivings were of that time.
