To find the length and width

Let x be the width the length = x + 3

Area of carpet = Length * Width

28 = (x + 3) * x

x² + 3x - 28 = 0

x² + 7x - 4x - 28 = 0

x(x + 7) -4(x + 7) = 0

(x + 7)(x - 4) = 0

x = -7 or x = 4

Therefore width = 4 ft then length = 4 + 3 = 7 ft
