Solve for xxx. Give an exact answer. 0.5(5−7x)=8−(4x+6)

Answer:

x=-1

Explanation:

0.5(5−7x)=8−(4x+6)

I do not like working with fractions so I will multiply by 2 on each side

2*0.5(5−7x)=2*8−2(4x+6)

5 -7x = 16 -2( 4x+6)

Distribute

5-7x = 16 -8x -12

Combine like terms

5-7x =4-8x

Add 8x to each side

5 -7x+8x = 4-8x+8x

5+x = 4

Subtract 5 from each side

5-5+x = 4-5

x =-1
