2x + 9 = 35

Convert the sign of the number that doesn’t have a letter (variable), in this case that’s is +9

Then... bring the converted number to the other side of the equal sign and subtract the total

2x + 9 = 35
- 9 = - 9
From here on both number 9 are not needed anymore because they cancel each other out.

2x + 9 = 35
- 9 = - 9
Subtract the total of the equation with the converted number.
2x + 9 = 35
- 9 = - 9
= 26

Next you will need to take the 2x and divide by itself, do the same in the other side if the equal sign.

2x + 9 = 35
- 9 = - 9
= 26
———————
2x = 26
—- —-
2 2

From here just solve 26 divided by 2. Don’t worry about the 2x dividend by 2 because once again they cancel each other out however you do keep the letter (variable) x

2x + 9 = 35
- 9 = - 9
= 26
———————
2x = 26
—- —-
2 2

x = 13

2x+9= 35

Move 9 to the other side

positive +9 changes to negative -9

2x+9-9= 35-9

2x= 26

Divide by 2 for 2x and 26

2x/2= 26/2

x= 13

Check answer by using substitution method

2x+9= 35

2(13)+9= 35

26+9= 35

35= 35

Answer : x= 13 ( first choice)
