How does the setting make it more difficult for the narrator to accomplish her goal?

The time period (afternoon) means she has less time to talk to Eugene.

The large, crowded location makes it more difficult for her to find Eugene.

The English-speaking culture makes it more difficult for her to communicate with Eugene.

The unfamiliar food of the culture upsets her stomach, making it hard for her to talk to Eugene.

The settings makes the narrator distracted, with all 4 examples being a distractor for her. The narrator can’t focus on talking to or looking for Eugene, because they pull her into an issue that overtakes the mind. In all 4 scenarios, the narrator has to overcome the thing to reach Eugene.
