L = 21.7 kg. S= 4.2 kg

Explanation:

3L+5S=86. L=(86-5s)/3

6L+2S=122.

2(86-5S) + 2S = 122

172 - 10 S +2S = 122

172 - 12S = 122

-12S= -50. S= 4.2

L = (86-(5*4.2))/3 = 21.7

The small and large boxes weigh 6.25kg and 18.25 respectively.

Let :

  • Large box = l
  • small box = s

Now we have:

  • 3l + 5s = 86 ____(1)
  • 6l + 2s = 122 ___(2)

multiply (1) by 2 and (2) by 5

6l + 10s = 172

30l + 10s = 610

subtract:

-24l = -438

l = 18.25

From(1)

3(18.25) + 5s = 86

54.75 + 5s = 86

5s = 86 - 54.75

5s = 31.25

s = 6.25

Hence, the small and large boxes weigh 6.25kg and 18.25 respectively.
