Primary consumers would lose a source of food, so populations might go down. The same would happen to every other consumer as a result.
Plant growth would decrease because the the nitrogen would not be released from dead organisms (if decomposed). Producers/plants are super important. Any effect ends in the ecosystem suffering greatly.
