Quotient means division

20/(x+3) =4

Multiply each side by (x+3)

(x+3)*20/(x+3) =4(x+3)

20 = 4(x+3)

Divide each side by 4

20/4 = 4(x+3)/4

5 = x+3

Subtract 3 from each side

5-3 = x+3-3

2 =x
