Read the excerpt from Act II, scene v of Romeo and Juliet.

Friar Laurence: These violent delights have violent ends,
And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,
Which, as they kiss consume: the sweetest honey
Is loathsome in his own deliciousness
And in the taste confounds the appetite:
Therefore love moderately; long love doth so;
Too swift arrives as tardy as too slow.

What mood is created by the oxymoron and paradox in this excerpt?

excitement
chaos
hopefulness
seriousness

Seriousness because it is more of a revelation they need to know from Friar Laurence because their love happened very quickly and will end very quickly. The love will not last as it consumes them and they need to realize that it isn’t good and this resonates the mood of seriousness.

Answer:

seriousness

Step-by-step explanation:

The oxymoron is a literary device that is used when two opposite words are put next to eachother, in order to create a certain feeling, a paradox is a statement that contradicts itself, in this case Friar Laurence is telling Romeo and Juliet that they have to love eachother moderately if they want their love to last, since violent consuming lovers often do not last.
