For this case, the first thing to do is define a variable.

We have then:

  • x: total number of children

Then we write the equation that models the problem:

\frac {2} {3} x = 18

From here, we clear the value of x.

We have then:

x = \frac {3} {2} (18)\\x = 3 * 9\\x = 27

Answer:

the total number of children in the class is:

x = 27
