We want to know the scale distance that represents the distance 100 m.

So we have:

1 to 200

x to 100

Setting up a proportion:


(1)/(x)=(200)/(100)

Cross multiply:


100(1)=200(x)

Divide both sides by 200:


(100(1))/(200)=x


(100)/(200)=x


(1)/(2)=x


x=(1)/(2)

So a 1/2 units in length on the scale represents 100 m.
