El tema de la desaparición de muchísimas de nuestras lenguas indígenas constituye todavía un campo de estudio muy interesante aunque difícil y secundario de la historia colombiana. Pocos son los nacionales que se han detenido a meditar cómo nuestra realidad social se ha caracterizado por un acentuado plurilingüismo y una pluralidad cultural, tanto en el pasado como en el presente. Esta singularidad no puede continuar siendo objeto exclusivo de uno o dos estudiosos. La riqueza cultural de nuestro país debe trascender a las esferas oficiales, educativas, religiosas y administrativas para que tenga un reconocimiento cada vez más claro y efectivo y constituya un elemento definido dentro de los marcos de su identidad cultural.
