By definition of a supplementary angle:
x+y=180

We can also derive another equation based on the relationship between x and y as given in the question. It says "one angle is 4 times larger than the other". Since we said that y is the larger number, it means that:
y=4x

We can substitute this definition into the first equation we made to solve for x


x+(4x)=180

Add like terms


5x=180
