Which lines are perpendicular to the line y – 1 = (x+2)?

Answer:

y=-x+b

Explanation:

Turning y-1=(x+2) into slope-intercept form is simple, just add 1 to both sides and you get y=x+3(If it was multiplication, it would be y=x+2, but it's addition. So just add 1 to 2 to get 3 without any change to the equation). To find a line perpendicular to this, find the opposite-reciprocal of the slope which is -1. So the equation right now is y=-x+3, but you can take out the 3 because it's not really important in this situation due to the question asking for multiple lines and not a solid point, and because it only changes where it intersects.
