When this happens, it not only helps in the advancement of the people. Yes, that is one way of taking it. But, more importantly, it breeds the idea that their (colonized people) culture and very ways of existence is wrong and needed to be changed. It makes them feel inferior, which it rightly does to them, but also ends up ruining their innocence of their own cultures and traditions. Thus, learning the language of the masters will diminish their own knowledge of their native language, thereby leading to future eradication of the language as a whole.
