Explanation:

x - 3y = 6 --------(1)

2x + 2y = 4 -------(2)

we multiply (1) by 2

2x - 6y = 12 --------(3)

(3) - (1)

-8y = 8

y = -1

Putting y = -1 into equation (1)

x - 3 (-1) = 6

x + 3 =6

collect the like term

x = 6 - 3

x = 3

Therefore x= 3 and y = -1
