Therefore we have the equations:

2x - 4 = x + 12 and 3y - 2 = y + 6

2x - 4 = x + 12 add 4 to both sides

2x = x + 16 subtract x from both sides

3y - 2 = y + 6 add 2 to both sides

3y = y + 8 subtract y from both sides

2y = 8 divide both sides by 2

y = 4

AB = 3y - 2 → AB = 3(4) - 2 = 12 - 2 = 10
