After WWII, factory managers expected women to quit their jobs and return to their domestic roles in the home so the war-worn men could retake their employment positions. While the war period was marked by governmentally-funded feminist messages/symbols such as ‘Rosie the Riveter’, the 1950’s and 1960’s saw women and men pushed back into traditional, stereotypical gender roles.
