Hello there i hope your having a good day :) your question : Emily, Carl and Antony altogether has 121 stamps. How many stamps does each of them have, if it is known, that Emily has 40% more than Carl, and Carl has 60% more than Antony?
So firstly you would each of the people Emily and Carl and also Antony and also set a variable that would be Emily = 1.4 and Carl = 1.6 x and Antony = x so then you would form the equations. x + 1.6x + (1.4 x 1.6x) = 121 x + 1.6x + 2.24x = 121 4.84x = 121 x = 25. So all together Emily = 1.4 times 1.6x = 56 stamps. And Carl = 1.6x = 40 stamps. And also Antony: x = 25 stamps
Hopefully this helps you.
