Explanation:

The formula of a distance between two points:


d=√((x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2)

We have

A(0, 0), C(a, b)


AC=\sqrt{(a-0)^2+(b-0)^2=√(a^2+b^2)

B(a, 0), D(0, b)


BD=√((0-a)^2+(b-0)^2)=√((-a)^2+b^2)=√(a^2+b^2)

Therefore AC = BD.
