Answer: The government needed Americans to support the war effort, so propaganda was used for a wide variety of purposes. It utilized a wide variety of mass media, including films, cartoons, and especially posters. Posters were designed to convince Americans to join the armed forces, buy war bonds, ration war items, conserve food and other items, and to support the entry of women into the workforce. They were also used to portray the enemy as evil and inhumane.
