First, subtract 5 from both sides.

2x + 5 (-5) = 9 (-5)

2x = 9 - 5

2x = 4

Isolate the x, Divide 2 from both sides:

(2x)/2 = (4)/2

x = 4/2

x = 2

x = 2 is your answer.
