If a rectangle piece of dimensions 3 cm x 2 cm is cut from one corner of a rectangular sheet of dimensions 10 cm x 6 cm and attached to it's side projecting out of the rectangle, what will be the change in perimeter of the new shape thus formed?

Explanation:

The sides of the larger rectangle are 10 cm and 6 cm.

The sides of the part cut out are 3 cm and 2 cm.

The part cut out is attached to one of the sides of the rectangle.

Perimeter of the new shape will be


6+7+2+3+2+3+2+13=38\ \text{cm}

Perimeter of old shape


2(10+6)=32\ \text{cm}

Change in the perimeter is
38-32=6\ \text{cm}

The perimeter of changed by
6\ \text{cm}.
