These features would eventually lead to big estates which would then make a leader, like a king, rise above the other vassals. In other words, this meant that they went from being decentralized to centralized monarchies. This helps explain patterns of political change in post classical Europe by showing how we use to unite, and how we unite now. The feudal system showed that the vassals would belong to the kings, yet today we don't belong to anyone
