They both begin with a series of reactions know as glyclosis, which breaks down glucose molecules into smaller molecules

Both are reactions of energy metabolism in order to obtain energy for other reactions from the breakdown of ATP (adenosine triphosphate).

Cellular respiration and fermentation have the same initial stage: Glycolysis, where the initial breakdown of glucose occurs (reducing glucose to smaller particles) in the energy generation process.

However, in fermentation the glycolysis process is faster because it has a lower energy yield than in cellular respiration.
