An alien has just landed from the planet, Iksnimak. He would like to leam how to add two fractions when the

denominators are the same. Write a paragraph that explains to our alien friend, in your own words, the details
about how to add the fractions, how to change the result to a mixed number, and how to reduce the fraction
part. Use this problem as your example:
the two fractions are 5/8 & 7/8

Answer:

The answer to 5/8 + 7/8 is 12/8, and in mixed numerals, 1 4/8

Explanation:

First off, you must look at your given fraction. Lets use the example, 5/8 + 7/8. Because they have the same denominator, it makes it super easy for us to add them. All you have to do is add the top numbers and the denominator stays the same.

You should have 12/8 as your result. Since the numerator (the top number) is larger than the denominator, you must change the fraction to a mixed number.

To do that, first find how many of the denominator there are in the numerator. With our example, there is only one 8 in 12. You have now found your whole number!! Well done!

To find the numerator of the new fraction, you must substract the denominator from the numerator (12 - 8). You should have ended with 4.

Your final answer should look a little something like this -> 1 4/8.

Do you need any help with simplifying fractions?

Hope my explanation wasn't TOO confusing! Please don't be afraid to tell me if it was!
