Write an equation in standard form of the line that passes through the point and has the given slope. ( -2, 4) ; m = -6

Which of the following best describes the technique used to graph the equation using the slope and y-intercept?

y = 5x + 10

Answer:

y = -6x - 8

Explanation:

The line passes through (-2,4)

And has a slope (m) = -6

Taking another point (x,y) on the line.

Slope of a line = change in y ÷ change in x

So,

(y - 4)/(x - -2) = -6

y - 4 = -6(x + 2)

y - 4 = -6x - 12

y = -6x - 12 + 4

y = -6x - 8
