Iced tea and lemonade sell for different prices per gallon at Chicken-Fill-Up. Two gallons of iced tea and 3 gallons of lemonade cost a total of $23.25. Five gallons of iced tea and 4 gallons of lemonade cost a total of $41.50. What is the price per gallon for each drink at Chicken-Fill-Up?

The computation of the price per gallon for each drink is as follows;

Let us assume the ice tea be x

And, lemonade be y

So the equations are

2x + 3y = $23.25 .......(i)

5x + 4y = $41.50 ................(ii)

Now multiplied by 5 and 2 in equation 1 and 2

10x + 15y = $116.25

10x + 8y = $83

7y = 33.25

y = $4.75

Now put the y value in any of the equation

2x + 3($4.75) = $23.25

x = $4.5

So, the price per gallon for each drink is $4.5 and $4.75 respectively
