Bill will rent a car for the weekend. He can choose one of two plans. The first plan has no

initial fee but costs $0.70 per mile driven. The second plan has an initial fee of $50 and
costs an additional $0.50 per mile driven. How many miles would Bill need to drive for the
two plans to cost the same?

Answer:

250 miles

Explanation:

Let number of mile driven be x

plan 1: Cost = 0.7x

plan 2: Cost = 50 + 0.5x

for both plans to cost the same,

Plan 1 Cost = Plan 2 Cost

0.7x = 50 + 0.5x (solve for x)

0.7x - 0.5x = 50

0.2x = 50

x = 250 miles
