Answer:

Average rate of change = -6

Explanation:

The average rate of change over the interval (a,b) is given by;

[ f(b) - f(a)] / (b-a)........................where interval is (a,b)

(a,b) interval =(-3,1)

Where;

f(x)= -12 (x+2)² +5

f(a)=f(-3)=-12(-3+2)^2+5\\f(a)=f(-3)=-12(-1)^2+5\\f(a)=f(-3)=-12(1)+5\\=-12+5=-7\\\\\\f(b)=f(1)=-12(1+2)+5\\f(b)=f(1)=-12(3)+5\\=-36+5=-31\\\\f(b)-f(a)=-31--7=-24\\\\b-a=1--3=4\\\\f(b)-f(a)/b-a=(-24)/(4) =-6
