Given the 2 equations

2x - 3y = 14 → (1)

5x + 3y = 21 → (2)

Adding the 2 equations term by term will eliminate the y - term

(5x + 2x) + (- 3y + 3y) = (14 + 21)

7x = 35 ( divide both sides by 7 )

x = 5 → D
