Dear city council members:

The city has proposed limiting library hours in order to
save money. I understand that the city budget is being
challenged at the moment, but no good will come of
denying children access to the library after school.
Children go to the library to learn and to get help with their
homework. As a single parent, I rely on the library as an
affordable place where I know my kids will be safe. Of all
the programs to cut, the library should not be your first
choice.
What is the main idea of this letter?

A. The city council has been irresponsible with its budget.

B. Children should not have to visit the library to be safe.

C. There is a lack of quality options for childcare.

D. The city council should not cut the library hours.

Step-by-step explanation:

The main idea of this letter is that the city council should not cut the library hours. The writer is expressing concern about the proposed limitation on library hours due to budget constraints. They argue that denying children access to the library after school would have negative consequences. The writer explains that children rely on the library to learn and get help with homework. They also mention that as a single parent, they view the library as an affordable and safe place for their children. The writer suggests that cutting library hours should not be the first choice when deciding which programs to cut. Therefore, the main idea of this letter is that the city council should not reduce library hours.
