The American colonists were not alone in the revolutionary war, they were helped by the allies.They provided help by giving supplies, weapons, soldiers and military leaders. France, Spain and Netherlands were the countries which helped the colonists. France was the primary ally and helped by providing gunpowder, canon and clothing for the continental army. After signing the Treaty of Alliance in 1778, it became the official ally and became directly involved In the war. The French navy fought with the British along the American coast and the soldiers helped to reinforce the continental army during the battle of Yorktown in 1781.
