Audre Lorde’s poem Hanning Fire is about a fourteen year old girl that is discovering her life. She talks about the turbulence that she is experiencing, that are typical teenage worries and fears. At the same time she is lonely and believes that she is helpless.
One of the main issues she talks about in the poem is LONELINESS. The author uses a series of hints of loneliness to express many problems the girl is facing.
There are many examples of this loneliness on the text.
1) Lines 10-12 “and momma’s in the bedroom/with the door closed”.
2) Lines 17-18 “… but finally/tell the truth about me”.
3) Lines 24-25 “Nobody even stops to think/about my side of it”.
