Answer:

(2x - 3y)(4x - y) = 8x² - 14xy + 3y²

Explanation:

Use FOIL: (a + b)(c + d) = ac + ad + bc + bd

(2x - 3y)(4x - y) = (2x)(4x) + (2x)(-y) + (-3y)(4x) + (-3y)(-y)

= 8x² - 2xy - 12xy + 3y²

combine like terms

= 8x² + (-2xy - 12xy) + 3y² = 8x² - 14xy + 3y²

You must FOIL (first, outside, inside, last)

First (The first number/variable of each parentheses must be multiplied together)

(2x - 3y)(4x - y)

8x^(2)

Outside (The outside number/variable of each parentheses must be multiplied together)

(2x - 3y)(4x - y)

-2xy

Inside (The inside number/variable of each parentheses must be multiplied together)

(2x - 3y)(4x - y)

-12xy

Last (The last number/variable of each parentheses must be multiplied together)

(2x - 3y)(4x - y)

3y^(2)

Now add/subtract each FOIL answer according to its sign

8x^(2) - 2xy - 12xy +
3y^(2)

Combine like terms

8x^(2) +
3y^(2) - 14xy

Hope this helped!
