Can someone help me understand how to do this problem?

y = -5x + 46

Explanation:

We are trying to find an equation in y=mx+b form

Okay so we know two points on the graph, from which we can get the slope (value of m) by the formula
(y_(2) -y_(1))/(x_(2)-x_(1))

plugging in the values:
(6 -1)/(8-9)

the resulting slope is -5

to find our b value we can plug in one of our coordinants into the equation and solve for b

1 = -5(9) + b

1 = -45 + b

46 = b

so our equation in y = -5x + 46
