Franklin Pierce was the 14th president of the United States. Just two months before he took office, he saw his 11 year old son tragically killed from a train crash. First of all, you could say one thing someone can learn from Franklin Pierce is to never let anything drag you down or keep you from big feats.
Overall, his time in office was good. He was in fact the youngest president American had at the time. That in itself is a huge accomplishment. He had success in the Gadsen purchase. He bought what is now Southern Arizona, New Mexico from Mexico for $10 million.
One of the things he did to stir up some hate in people what something called the Kansas-Nebraska act. This made it so that Kansas and Nebraska could enter the union without prior definition of their slave status. However, he said he abhorred slavery. This goes against his words. Actions do speak louder than words, something else you can learn from Franklin Pierce. Often times, policial figures go against what they believe in order to get votes. This ultimately was one of the big steps leading to the civil war.
