Explanation:

from the picture we got angle HFG is 45 degree.

let x is the length of HF

we got sin45=sqrt(8)/x

1/sqrt(2)=sqrt8/x

x=sqrt16

x=4

note that x is the length of HF

let y is the length of HE

use pythagorean theory

3^2+4^2=y^2

9+16=y^2

25=y^2

5=y

so tanE is x/y

tanE=4/5

The tan of angle E is 4/3

Using trigonometric ratio to find the tan E, we need to find the opposite side to angle first. Trigonometric ratio is the ratio between the sides of a right triangle.

Using Pythagorean theorem to find HF

triangle GHF Is an isosceles triangle

therefore;

HF² = √8)² + √8)²

HF)² = 8 + 8

HF = √ 16

HF = 4

Tan E = opp/adj

Tan E = HF/EF

TanE = 4/3

Therefore, the value of HF is 4/3
