Given the function f(x) = 2(x + 8), find x if f(x) = 12.

f(x) = 12

12 = 2(x+8)

Divide each side by 2

12/2 = 2/2(x+8)

6 = x+8

Subtract 8 from each side

6-8 =x+8-8

-2 = x

12 = 2x +16

Subtract 16 from each side:

-4 - 2x
