x = 35 degrees.

Explanation:

These are 2 'same side' interior angles of a parallelogram whose sum is 180 degrees.

So we have th equation:

3x + x + 40 = 180

4x = 180 - 40

4x= 140

x = 140 / 4 = 35 (answer)>
